Do they have snakes in Japan?

Looks like it. This is "Hebi" my new pet that I found on the way to school (hebi means snake in Japanese). Snakes are a rarity around here and fortunately they only have one species of poisonous snake in Japan. I learned what the poisonous one looked like as soon as I got here (it's a type of asp that looks very different than Hebi), so anything else I see is o.k. to pick up.

They got a real kick out of me showing up at the school with Hebi wrapped around my hand, but the weird thing is that the men were scared far, far, far worse than the women. One of the teachers even told me that men were particularly scared of snakes and did not like them around at all - even in a box. Odd.
