GORDON RULE ASSIGNMENTS
The Gordon Rule (State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.030) requires
that you must satisfactorily complete a number of writing assignments
with a total of no less than 1715 words. To meet this requirement
there will be two short assignments (approx. 900 words each) which
will count 50 points each for a total of 100 points. Each will be
assigned at an appropriate time during the semester.
While these make up only part of your final grade, you must
complete both in order to pass this course. Also remember
that I expect them to be turned in at the beginning of class (at
roll call) on the day they are due to receive full credit. Turning
an assignment in late, but before the class period is over, will
result in a 12.5 point penalty. Turning an assignment in late, but
on the same day it is due, will result in a 25 point penalty. Turning
an assignment in at the beginning of the next class period after
the day it is due will result in a 0, but will still be required
if you expect credit for the course. Turning in either assignment
later than one class period after it is due will result in an "F"
for the course (see above). Lastly, you must also have
an overall course grade of at least a “C” to obtain
Gordon Rule credit.

ECHINODERMS IN THE
REEF AQUARIUM
This month we’re taking a good
look at the rest of the echinoderms, including the sea urchins,
the sea cucumbers, and the sea lilies. But first, a quick review
of the general characteristics that all of these share with their
kin, the starfishes, and the brittle and basket stars. Even though
these strictly marine animals may initially appear to be completely
unrelated to each other, you’ll see that there are actually
several key features that even these most distantly related echinoderms
share with one another.................
